Video Shows Fireworks Exploding as Fire Destroys 2 Family Homes Ahead of the Holidays: 'Lost Everything'

Fireworks dramatically filled the sky at the scene of a Massachusetts house fire in which two homes were destroyed and two families “lost everything.”

Spencer Fire Department shared a postthat revealed the extent of the damage. “Two of our families from town lost everything tonight and a third had damage to their home,” they posted to Facebook, adding that the icy conditions at the scene had been “frigid.”

“The main home was gone when we pulled up and tried to save the other two,” the statement added.

Another neighbor told WBZ that he “heard explosions” and his house “shook.”

CBS reported that temperatures in the area were “well below freezing” on Sunday. They added that the state Department of Fire Services responded to the scene to help local firefighters in the bitter cold. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

PEOPLE contacted Spencer Fire Department for an update but did not immediately receive a reply.
