Soccer playerTrinity Rodmanand her boyfriend, Trinity Benson, share more than a name.

The Olympic athlete, who is also a forward for the Washington Spirit and the United States national team, and her boyfriend share a love of sports. Rodman inherited her passion for competing in part from her dad, former professional basketball playerDennis Rodman, who she confirmed is “not present” in her life in a December 2024 appearance on theCall Her Daddypodcast.

“He was an amazing athlete, and I got those genes from him, but I’m excited to be known as Trinity Rodman and not just as Rodman’s daughter,” she saidafter being draftedin 2024. “I’m excited to pave my own path and get better throughout this journey.”

Benson is an undrafted free agent in the NFL who was most recently part of the Cleveland Browns practice squad in 2023. The sporty couplewent Instagram officialin May 2024. “Trinity squared 🫣😘,” Rodman wrote in the caption.

He is from Texas

Benson was born and raised in Texas and attended Lewisville High School, where he joined the varsity football team in his junior year.

According toEast Central University’s athletics website, he was selected for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Dallas, recorded 1,036 all-purpose yards and had eight touchdowns in his senior season.

“We knew he was special in those little league games,” Benson’s brother Trustin told theColorado Springs Gazettein 2021. “He also always played with older kids and he showed out then, too. We all pretty much knew he was going to be a pretty good football player. Kids couldn’t catch him."

Benson played college football at East Central University

When Benson graduated high school, he had two scholarship offers and he eventually chose to play college football for East Central University in Ada, Okla. According to theColorado Springs Gazette, he was nervous that playing at the NCAA Division II level might hurt his chances of playing at a professional level.

“Believe it or not, but ECU taught me how to just grind,” Benson told the university’s athletics website. “They taught me how to be a hard worker because nothing was going to come easy. Every team in the conference knows that ECU football has the talent every year and it is all about putting it together.” Benson was later named to the All-Great American Conference.

Al Johnson, who coached Benson his senior year at East Central, told theColorado Springs Gazettethat he knew reaching the NFL was attainable for Benson.

“That’s what I told all the scouts that came through. Just because he went to East Central — your atmosphere and NFL training camp wouldn’t be too big for him,” Johnson told theColorado Springs Gazette.“I think some guys are just happy to be there. But Trinity has always had a bigger goal and mindset than to just be there.”

He is an NFL wide receiver

The football player kicked off his NFL career in 2019 when he joined the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

“It’s always a dream come true being able to come out here and play the game that I love,” hesaid during a Broncos press conferencein August 2021.

Benson was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2021 and was waived in 2022. He had one more stint on both teams before being signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad in 2023. He is currently a free agent.

Rodman and Benson first went public in May 2024

Rodman made their relationship public in May 2024 in anInstagram post. Benson commented, “My treacherous lil’ twin 🫶🏾."

Rodman’s fellow NWSL starsSophia SmithandAlyssa Thompsonalso commented on the post, voicing their support of the “hard launch.”

The new relationship comes after Rodman was previously linked to Loyola Maryland basketball player Chris Kuzemka.

Rodman is the “funnier one in the relationship”

In June 2024, Rodman posted aTikTokwith the caption, “Me trynna distract him from the fact that I’m the funnier one in the relationship.” Benson commented, “We both know the truth 😂😂😂.”

That wasn’t the only TikTok Rodman made about her boyfriend. The same month, sheposted a TikTok of her dancingaround Benson with the jokey caption, “‘Your boyfriend is so chill you must be too.’ ”

They traveled to New York together

In June 2024, Rodman and Benson took a weekend trip to New York City together. She posted photos from the trip in a TikTok with the caption, “Ur gonna get sick of us 🤪.”

Benson commented, “Love You Suga 🧡🥹.” Rodman also shared photos from the trip with Bensonon Instagramwith the caption, “I ❤️ NYC.”
