Whoopi Goldberg’s fashion philosophy is as relatable as it gets.

“I wish I could tell you it’s deep like that, but it’s not,” she saysThe Viewco-host, 69, told PEOPLE about her fashion sense at the Planet Hollywood grand opening in N.Y.C. on March. 11.

“If it fits and it’s comfortable, I put it on,” she adds.

Before taking the stage with Oprah Winfrey to honor the lateQuincy Jones, theSister Actstar turned heads in a bespoke midnight blue Christian Siriano gown with a full circle skirt and sculptural off-the-shoulder sleeves that gave arare glimpseat the dragon tattoo on her shoulder. The design was pulled right from the runway and made custom for her.

Reflecting on the show-stopping look, Goldberg told PEOPLE: “The dress was stunning. He created a dress and all I had to do was put it on and it fit. It was heaven.”

Before the big night, which also saw the EGOT winnerreunite with herGhostcostarDemi Moore, Goldberg attended Christian Siriano’s Fall/Winter fashion show during New York Fashion Week on Feb. 6., where she mingled with Katie Holmes, Natasha Bedingfield, Danielle Brooks and more.

What were they chit-chatting about at the front row? “We were just talking about the fact that Christian’s clothing is spectacular and he dresses everyone, every body type, every height. There’s not a lot of people who can do that, but he’s one who does it and he does it beautifully,” she said.

Fashion designerChristian Sirianoand Goldberg go way back. TheProject Runwaystar first dressed her for the 2008 Tony Awards and has since outfitted Goldberg for many occasions, including the2018 Oscars.

In aPaperinterviewpublished that year, Siriano opened up about their long-standing connection. “We have a blast together, and I always try to push her and have fun,” he said. “She doesn’t take anything too seriously, which is good.”
