Why Lenny Kravitz Considers Albums His 'Defining Chapters' as He Extends Las Vegas Residency (Exclusive)

While he’s undoubtedly known for his music, much is made of Kravitz’s sometimes eclectic lifestyle — he’s often barefoot and was seen last year in the gymworking out in leather pants, boots and sunglasses. Kravitz takes it all in stride, saying his music and lifestyle go hand in hand.“They go together. Taking care of myself and the lifestyle goes with the music,” he said. “Living is an art, so how are you going to live it? It really is how you approach life. It changes a lot, and if you do your best to live it in the light and live gracefully and learn from your, we call them mistakes, but our lessons and take care of yourself, you can get great results. So it all goes together. The music, the lifestyle, everything. It’s all one and the same.”

For Kravitz, rarely is there a time when he’s not thinking about music, no matter where he is or what he’s doing. He often wakes up with music in his head, prompting him to grab a guitar and a phone and start recording. He once even wrote a song during a media interview, which he noted was his “weirdest” songwriting experience to date.“I was doing an interview while I was making my second record,Mama Said. I don’t know why I was doing an interview then, but I was, and while I was having the interview with the guy, I was writing a song in my head,” he recalled. “That was very strange. I was actually carrying on a conversation with this guy, but I was like, uh-oh. It just came, and I had to keep it going in my head while I was doing an interview, and then the second he walked out, I recorded it. It was bizarre.”He quickly noted to PEOPLE, “I promise you I’m not doing that right now!”
