Lucy recently traded crusty asphalt for a cozy bed.
In January, Lane Bounds of Laurel, Mississippi, shared on TikTok how her newest pet came into her life. Bounds first noticed Lucy wandering around the parking lot outside her gym. According to the Associated Press, the canine was alone and appeared to be an “old stray.”
Heartbroken to see the dog uncared for, Bounds tried to approach the pup but couldn’t make contact. Days later, Bounds spotted the dog again, this time snoozing outside a bank, but the canine eluded her when she tried to approach.
Bounds pressed on, locating the dog each week to feed her and build trust. Eventually, she started bringing her pet dog with her to see Lucy. The other dog attracted the stray’s attention, and Bounds was able to get closer to the stray. A few days after Bounds' first visit to see Lucy with her pet dog, the stray felt comfortable enough to hop into Bounds' car.

The animal lover drove Lucy right to the vet, where she learned that the 8-year-old stray had been someone’s pet named Lucy. Unfortunately, according to Bounds, when Lucy’s former owners were contacted about the canine, they “weren’t interested in reuniting” with the pet.
Not willing to give up on Lucy now, Bounds decided to bring the dog home “until we figured things out.”
Lucy spent her first week at Bounds' residence enjoying “nothing but rest,” catching up on the sleep and comfort she had missed while living on the streets. Afterward, Lucy started to open up to Bounds' family, including her children, proving to be a playful and affectionate canine.

“Lucy learned life could be good again,” Bounds shared on social media.
After three months of helping Lucy find her footing, Bounds realized the dog was already home and officially adopted the pup. Now, Lucy’s days are filled with warm blankets, plentiful hugs, and regular meals instead of punishing weather and loneliness.
