A mother of two is turning to the Reddit community for support after a heated confrontation with her own mother over parenting styles.

Inher post, the 32-year-old, who has sons ages 6 and 4, explains that her mother’s disapproval has intensified since she became a parent herself.

“My mom has always had strong opinions about everything I do, but since becoming a mom myself, it feels like her critiques have been relentless,” she writes.

The woman also notes that her mother tends to comment on “how I feed them, discipline them, or even what clothes I dress them in.” However, the tipping point was during a family dinner when the woman’s 4-year-old had a “tantrum” over the meal. She ultimately chose to calmly address the situation and offer an alternative.

While the woman thought this would’ve been the end of the situation, the kid’s grandmother decided to share her thoughts — which started the argument between the two women. “My mom loudly berated me in front of everyone, saying I was ‘failing as a mother,’ and letting my kids ‘walk all over me,' " the poster writes.

Unable to tolerate the comment, the woman decided to stand up to her mother. “I told her that if she couldn’t respect how I choose to raise my children, I wouldn’t tolerate her constant criticism,” she writes.

Her mother feels as if she embarrassed her, and the 32-year-old is seeking advice on how to proceed, because she doesn’t want to keep her children from having a relationship with their grandmother.

While the argument left the woman’s family split, Reddit users have sided with the younger mom, congratulating her for standing up for herself. “She completely overstepped,” writes one user. “It’s understandable that she has opinions, but she has no right to verbally attack you like that, especially in front of your sons.”

Another writes, “Setting boundaries with your mom is important especially when it comes to your kids. You’re raising them in a way that works for you, and it’s not okay for her to undermine you in front of them. Respect goes both ways, even in family. Stick to what feels right for your family!”
