TheXO, Kittyseason 1 finale began with Kitty confessing to her boyfriend Dae that she had developed feelings for Yuri (Gia Kim), leading to an emotional conversation on the phone with her dad where she confronted her confusing feelings.

Soon after, Kitty learned that her place at KISS was in jeopardy after being caught secretly living in the boys’ dorms. Despite passing her classes and explaining that she only broke the rules to escape her problematic roommate, her conduct violation meant she wouldn’t be invited back to KISS for the next school year — at least for now.

Before boarding, Kitty ran into Yuri and saw it as a sign to confess her feelings. However, Yuri’s girlfriend Juliana (Regan Aliyah) suddenly appeared, leaving Kitty unable to share how she felt. Feeling bad for Kitty, Yuri called her mother, Principal Lim (Yunjim Kim), in an effort to convince her not to expel her friend.

The final bombshell came when Kitty boards the plane to find Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) — who was headed to Los Angeles to visit his mother — sitting next to her. After Kitty explained that her relationship with Dae was over, Min Ho dropped an unexpected confession: he had fallen in love with her. The season ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Kitty processing her unresolved feelings for Yuri while facing Min Ho’s romantic declaration, complicating the fate of her love life even further.

In May 2023, Cathcart reflected on her character’s growth in season 1, telling PEOPLE she was “very proud of” the unexpected romantic storyline that developed between Kitty and Yuri, especially given that she came to school thinking she had it all figured out.

“She’slearning to be honest with herselfand be honest with the people around her,” the actress said. “Which is something that’s very difficult to do in many situations, at many stages of your life — but especially while you’re growing up, and when you’re in high school, and when there’s so many different pressures and different things that are overwhelming.”

She added that part of what made Kitty’s journey “real” was that she still has a lot to learn about herself.

“By the end of it, she doesn’t have an answer, like, ‘Oh, this makes sense to me. I like Yuri, and it means this, or this label feels right with me,’ " Cathcart said, adding that Kitty is “learning to be okay” with the uncertainty.
